Swiz 1.0 Release Candidate

I originally posted this note to the [swiz] mailing list, but I've had a few people inquire about the status of the project, so I thought it would make sense to share it here on my blog. If you aren't familiar with [swiz], it's development framework for ActionScript. It shares a lot in common with Spring (in the Java world) or ColdSpring (in the ColdFusion world) as it provides a lightweight micro-architecture for managing the dependencies and organization of your classes.

On Tuesday, May 18th, the [swiz] development team released an RC build for Swiz version 1.0. It marked the culmination of several years of design, development and testing. Even though hundreds of developers have already been using [swiz] in their enterprise applications, there is a large group of companies who wanted to final "1.0" before they would adopt it into their standards (and rightfully so). Prior to the 1.0 beta, the [swiz] team reserved the right to change core APIs and functionality. However, rather than put a false label of "1.0" on the project, I'm proud to say that the [swiz] team just worked overtime to finalize design, develop new functionality and fill out the documentation.

So, without further ado, please download the latest SWC, drop it into your next Flex/ActionScript project, and welcome to the enterprise ActionScript community!

One thing we're really excite to announce is our new wiki and bug tracking system. The fine folks at Atlassian have provided the swiz team with hosted JIRA accounts! We are very honored to be part of a very small collection of open source projects supported by Atlassian.

You want more documentation?

You got it! We've been moving a lot of the content from our old site over to the new wiki at http://swizframework.jira.com/wiki

In addition to the existing content, we've also created a new user guide there is a ton of new content. Of course, this is only the beginning. If you feel like you want to go above and beyond and contribute full articles or detailed documentation, just let us know and we'll enlist you into the swiz-army. We'll grant you a full-fledged account on the wiki so everyone will know how awesome you are!

If it's broke...

We'll fix it. Be sure to file any bugs you might come across into our new ticketing system. You'll need to create an account to file and track bugs, but it's free and easy! You can even use that same account when you are on the wiki too, so your comments won't be anonymous!

Almost There

Depending on the number of bugs and user input, we should be on track for a final Swiz 1.0 release within the next few weeks! Which is a good thing, because we've already got a long list of feature for Swiz 1.1! We've also got a very new and exciting project under development (codename: Firehose) that we're really anxious to share with the community.

Thanks for your support!
