ColdFusion 9 DVD Contains ColdFusion 8

We've received a number of reports regarding an error with the DVD replication process for ColdFusion 9. It appears that some of the physical media DVDs for ColdFusion 9 contain the installers for ColdFusion 8. While the DVD label and packaging say "ColdFusion 9", it is in fact the ColdFusion 8 DVD. The serial number enclosed on the packaging is correct and will work with a ColdFusion 9 installer.

When you insert the DVD, you will know if it is incorrect if the DVD title reads "ColdFusion 8.0". The splash screen will clearly state "Adobe ColdFusion 8" in multiple places.

Over the next few days we'll have a better understanding of how many improper DVDs were shipped out. We will be working with our distribution partners and retailers to recall the improper DVDs and replace them immediately. We will also provide a mechanism for customers to request a replacement DVD with the correct media if we are unable to send them directly.

If you have received an improper DVD, you can download the ColdFusion 9 installers directly from Adobe.com today (login required). The serial number supplied with the improper DVD is correct and will unlock the Trial and Developer Edition. We plan to publish an Adobe Developer Knowledgebase article in the next few days to cover all the details.

Thanks to everyone who reported this error. This was a terrible mistake and I apologize for any confusion this may have caused. We will do our best to remedy the issue as soon as possible. I'll be sure to update this post with new information as it arises.

Never to mind. Maybe exhausted staff after MAX. Not a major disaster?

Wow!! Surprised to know that there are a few still using DVDs.

Hopefully they will learn the lesson and move on !! Nice one Adobe :)

Go Green! Use web downloads.

@Rick: VL program was turned off for last week so for some people the only way to buy CF9 was to get box product.
@Adam: you comment box doesn't work on Mac Safari as expected. When clicking on reply it pops up at the top of the page and if the page is scrolled down it is invisible. It confused me a lot. Had to use firefox to realise there is a pop up window.

Wow, bummer to hear.

While you're at it, the documentation page also still points to CF8 docs: http://www.adobe.com/support/documentation/en/coldfusion/. Even if someone would say that that page is not going to offer links to the CF9 help, and instead they should use help.adobe.com, some will continue to go to that page as it's linked to as the doc page from the CF site and many other places.

Not piling on. Just trying to help.

As one of the lucky to receive a CF9 dvd with CF8 on it I feel like I now have the CF9 collectors edition.

I agree - collector's edition it is. I ordered online the night it was released and just earlier today started to provision a new server for CF9 - much to my amazement that it was CF8 on the actual disk...

Adam - if we purchased directly from Adobe should we just wait for the replacement DVD?

Well, thanks to this post, I just realized that I received one of these also. Wouldn't I have been surprised when I went to upgrade my test system!

Regarding replacement DVDs... Will us lucky few be getting replacements automatically? Do we need to register with Adobe somewhere to get them?

Call me old fashioned, but I like to actually have something physical to show my managers when they've authorized such a substantial purchase... :-) Plus it's a nice backup to have.

I'm still working to ensure the DVDs will be automatically replaced. I should have confirmation next week once the manufacturing teams are back from the company wide shutdown.

@Charlie: the page you reference is no longer the top-level ColdFusion Support page; the new page is http://www.adobe.com/support/coldfusion and it is what is linked from the ColdFusion section of the Adobe website located at http://www.adobe.com/products/coldfusion. It's actually good that the page you reference is still live since ColdFusion 8 is still a product we sell and support, however, I don't know where we even link to that page at this point: even on that page itself, if in the "Help Resource Centers" section you choose ColdFusion you are taken to the new page.
